うちなんちゅの皆さんへ – 日本語

For Uchinanchu:

This is a community that welcomes all global Uchinanchu defined as individuals with ancestral ties to the Ryukyu Archipelago. For Uchinanchu who participate in GUA, we wish for the following:

1. To respect the diversity within our community and to make it a priority to listen to our softer voices.
2. To correct the media or other individuals when they mis-identify Okinawans as ethnically “Japanese.,” and
   1. To recognize that the Ryukyu Kingdom has had distinct cultural, linguistic, religious, and political traditions before Imperial Japan unilaterally overthrown it in 1879.
   2. To recognize that Okinawans have been and continue to be racially discriminated against by the Japanese.
   3. To recognize that Okinawans are arbitrarily treated as either non-Japanese or Japanese.
3. To preserve traditional Okinawan core values and our practice of peace, and honor the value of all life as expressed in the Okinawan axiom “Nuchi du Takara” or “Life is a Treasure.”
4. To be as accurate and responsible as possible in studying and collecting information about Okinawan history and the Okinawan people.
5. To develop authentic relationships with Okinawans organizing and working in Okinawa, to listen to differences that emerge from disparate geographical contexts, and to directly address them in order to strengthen worldwide Okinawan solidarity.
6. To be careful to not exploit a lack of familiarity with societies and governments outside of Okinawa in order to garner attention in Okinawa or the Japanese-language media and to point out when this occurs transnationally.
7. To be wary of being used as a token or patronized by others in order to conceal power relations and hierarchies between Okinawans and non-Okinawans. To be firm in staying true to autonomous Okinawan organizing methods in the face of outside influence.
8. To be committed to meting out disagreements without being exclusive.
9. To be committed to educating the public on issues related to Okinawa.
10. To cultivate Okinawan leadership, particularly of the youth, women, and other Okinawans who at times have been discouraged from taking on positions of importance, to ensure our autonomy is exercised in all areas of society.

うちなんちゅの皆さんへ

ここは琉球諸島にルーツを持つ世界中のうちなんちゅを歓迎するコミュニティーです。GUAに参加するうちなんちゅの皆さんに下記の実践を奨励します：

1. 私たちのコミュニティーの多様性を尊重し、その中の聞こえにくい小さな声に耳を傾けるよう心がける。
2. メディアや個人が「うちなんちゅ」を「日本人」と表記あるいは誤用している場合は速やかに訂正させる。その場合、以下の2a, 2b, 2cの３点を認識させる。
   1. 沖縄は、日本が１８７９年に琉球併合するまで、独自の文化や言語、宗教、政治を持つ琉球王国だった。
   2. うちなんちゅは日本人から人種差別されてきた、それは現在も続いている。
   3. うちなんちゅは、時の日本政府の都合に応じて、恣意的に日本人扱いや非日本人扱いをされている。
3. 「命どぅ宝」との言葉にうちなんちゅの想いが象徴されているように、私たちは万人の命を尊び、うちなんちゅが求めてきた平和を復元する。
4. 沖縄やうちなんちゅに関する歴史を学んだり、情報を収集する際は、事実関係の正確さに最大限の努力を払うこと。
5. 沖縄で活動するうちなんちゅたちやその組織と真の関係を構築する。異なる地理的文脈から見解の違いなどが生じた場合は、問題点を話し合い、対応すること。これは世界のうちなんちゅの連帯の強化にもつながる。
6. 沖縄に関する認識が薄い沖縄以外の社会や政府を利用して、沖縄または日本語メディアの注目を得るためだけの行為が生じないよう注意する。こうした行為が国際間で起きた場合は指摘する。
7. うちなんちゅとうちなんちゅ以外の団体や個人関係において力関係や上下関係を隠すための「トークン（お飾り）」として利用されないよう注意する。外部に影響されることなく、うちなんちゅの自主性に基づく組織力に常に忠実であり続けるようにする。
8. 排他的にならず、意見の見解の相違を解決する。
9. 沖縄に関する知識を広める努力をする。
10. 若者や女性、そしてこれまで重要な役割に就くのを躊躇してきたうちなんちゅの人々を念頭に、私たちの自治が社会のあらゆる分野で行使されるようにするため、沖縄のリーダーシップ（指導力）を育成する。
